The Wildlife Park
It is not only the animal enthusiasts who are attracted by the largest Czech ZOO all year long. The “Podkrušnohorský zoopark” ZOO celebrates its 34th birthday in 2009. The visitors may watch the seals, European bison, takins, ovibos, bears, wolverines, martens, wolves, snakes, birds, monkeys and many more animal species in the unique naturally bordered area of nearly 120 hectares. More than 1000 animals of 190 species are bred here. You can take a ride through the zoo on the scenic train “Lokálka Amálka” or you can drive into the Euro-safari paddock on the “Safari Expres” jeep-bus, accompanied by a guided tour. Our new offer includes Trips to History. It includes a ride in a horse drawn carriage to the Open-air museum Stará Ves, then a guided tour round the interiors of the museum. Children may enjoy the Children’s ZOO, playground, climbing and fun facilities; they may also visit the Centre for Environmental Education and a specialised library or enjoy a pony or camel ride. There are many refreshment stands located in the ZOO and a souvenir shop, which you may appreciate as well. On our premises, you can see the farmhouse with indigenous domestic animals and an extensive collection of old agricultural tools, and also folk open-air museum Stará Ves. The museum includes a wind mill, frame chapel and Ore mountains farmhouse. Each year, the museum expands with new objects. The ZOO also organises regular cultural events that are very popular and visited by people from all over our region (Earth Day, Fairy-tale Safari, Animal Day, St. Hubert’s Ride, St. Nicholas’s Ride through the city and many more).

Stará Ves open air museum
The zoo-park premises include the unique open air museum Stará Ves. You can visit the windmill, where we can show you the corn grinding, and the exposition inside the mill will remind you of the destroyed villages in the region. You will also see the framed chapel, the Ore Mountains style farm with examples of orchading, agriculture, and crafts, a reconstructed pond, and newly planted linden alley. Early medieval settlements of old Slavonic and German tribes are gradually being established. The open air museum items are added according to the financial situation. The most significant building process will be a complete rebuilding of Ahník Castle, which was sacrificed for coal mining. The open air museum organizes popular cultural events such as Easter and Advent Sunday and a live nativity scene.
